Shell Dialogues Help

What is Shell Dialogues?
Shell Dialogues is a unique part of Shell’s communications. It is a place where everyone interested in the future of our planet’s energy supply can learn about our thinking, policies and initiatives. It is a place where we share information and invite you to join the conversation, either via our live webchats where you can question senior Shell executives in real time, or by posting your views at our online debating chamber – Shell Dialogues Forums.

Webchats

What are Shell Dialogues webchats?
Webchats are a key way for Shell to further open up dialogue and debate about how we should meet the energy needs of the future in the most responsible way. Shell brings together a panel of experts on a topic to answer your questions and respond to your comments online.

How do the webchats work?
Shell sets a date for each webchat and provides introductory materials (usually a video) so that everyone can familiarise themselves with the topic. On the day of the webchat the Shell panel will answer as many live questions as possible posted during the session as well as pre-submitted questions. A full transcript of the webchat session is published after the event, including all of the questions submitted.

Can anyone ask questions?
The introductory materials and the transcripts are available to anyone who visits the Shell Dialogues site. Any visitor is also welcome to follow the live webchat on his/her computer screen. However, you have to sign up with Shell Dialogues in order to actively participate in the live session.

When can I submit questions for the webchat?
Questions can be asked during the live webchat session. The final deadline to submit questions is 10 minutes before the end of the session. Please only submit your question once – as each question has to be logged and read by the panel, duplicate questions will delay our response.

Will all our questions get answered?
Please be patient. If there are a high number of participants in the webchat it may take time to get round to your question, and it may not be possible to answer all questions individually. However, the panel will try to cover any subject areas that they can respond to. It may be that someone else submits a similar question, so do look out to see if your question has been answered elsewhere. We will try to respond to any remaining questions after the webchat closes, and post answers on the site shortly after the webchat.

How do you choose the topics for the webchats?
We pick topics that we know people want to debate and discuss with Shell – recent webchats have covered biofuels and sustainable transport.

Forums

What are Shell Dialogues forums?
The Shell Dialogues Forum is a debating chamber where you can have your say and discuss issues relevant to the energy industry with people from across the world. A new topic is regularly posted. This is commented on by people at Shell. The floor is open  for everyone to post their reactions and views.

How do the forums work?

The Forum page on the Shell Dialogues website displays the current debate and all the contributions to date. A calendar shows how long the debate will continue to accept contributions and there is a field for members to post their point of view. You can also read the discussions from previous debates and prepare for forthcoming topics.

Can anyone contribute to the forum?

Anyone is welcome to post a point of view, you simply have to be a member of the Shell Dialogues community. All you need to join is an email address. Complete the simple Sign-up procedure on the Shell Dialogues website. All contributions have to pass through a quick moderation process before going live. You’ll find more details of moderation here
